Hexed to Travel

My current fascination with hexagons has given me a great take along project.  However, it had become apparent I needed a handy travel kit for carrying my scissors, needles, pins, papers, fabric and assorted odds and ends.

I followed a great tutorial by Lots of Pink Here.  It was fairly quick and easy to do, and I had a finish all in one day.

I had a rummage through my stash and pulled a piece of purple fabric that I had been hording.

I also used purple dots, positive and negative and a paisley pattern I had picked up in a Spotlight sale.

They work quite well together.  The scissor holder is a piece of ‘linen look’ fabric with pink hearts.  I also made a little hexagon, to go with the purpose of the kit.

The quilting has been done with straight lines, with the bird being outlined.

On a reconnaissance mission for papers today, I indulged in Kaffe which is bound for diamonds.  Might go cut some now to take on my night shift!

I have promised mum a travel kit too, and these fat quarters will be perfect for a similar little travel bundle.

All caught up

These last couple of days has seen me madly getting up to date with my Craftsy BOM.

I wanted to finish the hexagon blocks and make a start on May’s, Log Cabins.

The Log cabins were fun.

I tried to go wonky for the second, but it didn’t quite work.  This is not all bad, as I feel that the more structured ‘wonky’ block suits this fabric much better.

I am quite pleased with my blocks so far.

Progress on BOM

I have been a bit behind in my Craftsy BOM, possibly because I was scared of hexagons.

It gives me great pleasure to announce my first foray into the realm of English paper piecing, has been a huge success.

I am using the Grandmother's Flower Garden fabric line, which lends itself beautifully to hexagons.  Sorry that the Ipad pic doesn't really do this justice!

The quick, easy to take along nature has allowed me to enjoy another side of this wonderful craft of quilt making. I have already begun to think about a long term project using either diamonds or hexagons. I will continue to be inspired and the right project will come along.

In further news, Master 6 won a W.O.W Award today at assembly.  For his improvement in hand writing and written phonograms.  We are very proud of you!

The Leibster Blog Award ... for ME

I had never heard of the Leibster Blog Award, till yesterday.  For Small Blogs, of less than 200 followers.  I qualify, there is no doubt!

A big thank you goes to Theresa, at Common Quilts, for stopping by and sending this award my way.

To keep the tradition of the Leibster alive, I now need to award this to 5 other blogs, which inspire me.

I hope you enjoy visiting these blogs, as much as I do.

The lovely Fiona blogs at http://findingfifth.blogspot.com.au/

Tracey at the beautifully named, http://www.thepeonyteacup.blogspot.com.au/

I have been working on a project, just deciding on a border, or if I just make the fabric the binding, and leave it without extra fabric around the edge.

I also upgraded my frogging equipment.  Better watch myself or I'll do myself the damage!!

I have had lots of time to work, with a couple of days off, so without further ado …. Back to quilting!

Allsorts of Domestic Bliss

Squishy mail arrived this week.

As a special find under the bench at Ink & Spindle, when the call came out for a home … I obliged.  So glad I did.

This is gorgeous fabric, to put it mildly.  No real plan for a destination.  I may just pat it for a while!

Miss 8 is home not feeling well.  Cuddled up on the couch with a minky quilt, destined for another home, she asked me to “whip one up”.

So here I am.  Domestic Bliss at its best!
